Why Are You sXe?

Hey Guys,
I'm new here, and I was wondering...why are you guys sXe?

I'm straight edge for 4 reasons:
1) My best friend is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and I never want to partake in any activity (such as the use of drugs or alcohol) after seeing what they did to him and how they almost killed him
2) I think people should be responsible for their actions and for making the most of their time here on earth, and getting drunk and doing drugs doesn't seem like a good way to spend it
3) I happen to be a vegetarian, so that sorta works out, although I know being a veggie eater isn't necessarily part of being straight edge
4) I love hardcore and punk rock and my local scene, and I'm punk and I agree with and live by the sXe philosophy

So yea,

Might as well join in, why exactly do you call yourself 'punk'? Just wondering.

Because I like to be in control of myself. And because I've grown up in an alcohol-intensive environment (not home, but school) and I've seen what it's done to kids around me. Kids around me are so obsessed with alcohol, to the point where there are people here who don't talk about ANYTHING but alcohol and drugs. In fact, virtually everyone who isn't a teetotaler in some form is like that. I have more important things to talk, think, and obsess about than how I'm going to "escape" from (read: compound) my problems next weekend, or even tonight.
Also, I too consider myself "punk" a little bit- I listen to (and love) everything from poppish punk rock (i.e. Orange, Anti-Flag) to crust (my favorite genre- Aus-Rotten, Mouth Sewn Shut, Toxic Narcotic...) to hardcore (xBISHOPx, Earth Crisis...), so while I don't obsess over the label, yeah I consider myself punk.

I've searched for years for a niche in drugs, and I was only let down, and laughed at.

Being edge will allow me to keep a concrete niche in society.

It's like you're either straight edge or you are not. There are no "enough" or "not enough edge" measures. Either you are edge or you are not.
