hello everyone, i had a question about being sxe or maybe more about becoing one...
ive been drinking for quite a while now, but i made a decision a few weeks back never again to have a drink or any kind of drug, just because i thought about it hard and long and it seemed idiotic, and didnte like the way of life i was leading, so does it make me somewhat of a hipocrit to become straight edge now? my decicion is based on personal things, i think of it like a commitment, not superficial or anything... so any points of view will help, thanks

If you decided to become drug free now it would not be hipocritical even though you maybe used to drink alcohol. Infact most of the people who are drug free used to at one point drink before they made the choice.

I think you are better to research straight edge and ask questions about straight edge before you go claiming. So coming here and asking about it is a really good start.

Bear in mind that the music behind straight edge is certainly as important as the being drug free part of it.

thx for the comment, yea i know about the music, ive been listening to hardcore, and sxe bands for a long time now :p, and ive been reading alot so im not that ignorant about the subject but i thought i might get the opinion of real people, so thanks :D yea i made the decision for myself, and it feels right , so far its been a couple of weeks but im going the right way

all of us started off the same way. whether it was because of prior use or not, at some point everyone made that same decision that this was for them.

Thx, youve been very helpful i feel very good a bout this. im from costa rica (you know little country in central america), any bands im into , lot of them actually, my top ones may be terror, throwdown, hatebreed, the warriors, casey jones.. and some in spanish xnueva eticax , and xcuestion de respetox, been cheking more straight edge bands lately, just got xtyrantx and xarmed for battlex cds...
another thing im wondering, whats your opinion on gambling, it could bee as much as an addiction as any drug, and very harmful when being an addiction.. so..

Bands like Tyrant and AFB give Straight Edge the macho tough guy beat people up image, I can't stand all of that militant shit allthough they may have a couple of decent songs. You should check out the thread on here that lists alot of bands people recommend, there are some good ones on there who put out a positive message and are actually playing hardcore rather than average shitty metal that they then try to pass as hardcore.

Gambling is something I personally try and stay away from, the only gambling I have ever done is play the lotto a couple of times. But, if you happened to be addicted to gambling, that certainly isn't breaking edge if that is what you are getting at?

im not addicted to gambling, i was just wondering, since it could be an addiction too, ill check out the bands list then, I know what you mean about the macho violent thing, ive been to harcore shows here, sxe guys area tight group i dont think they accept just anyone and, form what i hear they get into quite a few fights.. :p

ok, so far its been about 2 weeks since i decided to become an stright edge, hard the first couple of days, beacause i used to smoke alot, but now, its like i never donde it! it feels great, drug free, and i plan to keep it that way, i know its not mucho 2 weeks , but im just happy im on the right path, thank to all of you who helped, and if anyone has more advice for me, feel free to say anything, thanks to all
