View Full Version : odd show stories
i'd like this forum to be pushed forward a bit to the shows, music, experiences. post a strange happening you witnessed at a show! i'll start it off.
3 years ago i was at an open air festival. lots of bands, lots of people. the shows started early, about 12-14.00, and needless to say, in the summertime it's way too hot this time of the day. The first bands played their sets, there were people in front of this huge stage, but only a few people were going off, probably because of the heat.
about 15.00 an italian band called Ingegno came on stage to play their set. as written above, only a few people were up front, everybody else, let's say 400 people were in the shades, at their camps etc.
At the end of the band's set, all of a sudden a guy appeared from nowhere wearing nothing but a wrestling mask! He was moshing it up totally naked. It was so funny, the singer forgot the words, and everybody was laughing histerically.

One time when my old band was playing, we were in the middle of our set and this dude runs up on stage wearing nothing but some sort of ladies thong and starts prancing about the stage and shaking his dick at our drummer. We knew the guy from another band and he was a funy dude but we totally didn't expect it, almost had to stop playing with laughter.

Not so much a hardcore show story but Davey Havok got punched in the nuts pretty hard when he did his walking on people thing here in 2003. Dude looked in serious pain but managed to suck it up and keep singing.

now that's a great story, not too odd though. said guy should expect that kind of shit all the time, 24/7!
come on, boys and girls, keep 'em coming!

mid august of this year, some friends and me were at pukkelpop in belgium. so one of my best mates and me were watching a concert of Enter Shikari, the rest of our mates were still on the campingsite cause they were too lazy, it was like 14.00... so the concert was a bit boring, and we saw some snubs standing 48 ft from us. my friend had a bunch of french fries with andalouse and i had a cup of water. so we threw it at the same time on those snubs, haha, i laughed my ass off ! they turned their backs and saw the 2 of us laughing and everybody else around us started laughing. after the "incident" they stopped talking and showing their stuff and just watched the concert.. lol anything can happen at a festival :p

This story isnt so much wierd, as much as it was an interesting experience for me. My first hxc show (well arguably considering the band is marketed more as metal now) was 100 demons in windsor a couple years back. I am not sure if anybody has even been to windsor Ontario, but the place is an absolute shit hole. The reason it was interesting was because a couple of guys from Detroit's courage crew crossed the border for the show, so at one point i was standing up front and i was face to face with a guy who had to have been 6'6, 300 lbs, with a skull tattooed on his bald head and an X tattooed in his cheek, and of course a courage crew jacket. I am pretty sure this guy was there with the sole purpose of hurting people. I spent the whole show, hands over my face so i didnt get his fist, or boot in my face. I realise this is a relatively boring story, but think of it from the perspective of somebody who had never been to that sort of show before. It was an interesting night for me.

Glad that goon didn't scare you away because that's exactly what it could have done with some other kids at the show.

Why do you feel the need to hurt people at shows? People are there to have a good time and listen to a band they paid money to see. But they can't enjoy it because there are people there trying to hurt others?
I think it's just selfish and I can't see how you benefit from acting like a goon. Is it the tough guy image that makes you feel good about yourself? Do you enjoy hurting people?
I just don't get any of it.

Well then you're not that goon, because I am 6'2 and he was taller than I was. Nevertheless, my point was, look at it from the perspective of someone who had never been to a hardcore show before.

For somebody who is trying to clear the air about Courage Crew, comments like that aren't really giving you guys a good image.
Dini, you're band isn't American so obviously it isn't real hardcore!

I love this thread! *tucks away idea for zine
I think my funniest story was when I was at a show watching my friend's band play with 7 Angels 7 Plagues. There was a drunk guy there with a long black wig on that stood about 5'4". He was acting like a real jerk purposely pushing the girls down, punching people in the back, et cetera. So I decided to it would be funny to take his wig and throw it to the back of the room. He immediately turned around and punched my friend, who stands 6'2" and 300 lbs, because he thought my friend had taken his wig. My first fight at a show. True story.

i wouldn't call my band hardcore anyway. but what a misconception non-american "hardcore" bands are living in!

im not trying to clear the air about anything. you dont like my taste in music. whatever. you dont like crews. whatever. i just saw that you were asking about courage crew and talking shit about me and what i believe in so here i am. you are all saying i have this superiority about me but i list what i listen to and its not good enough. you ask my beliefs and then tell me im wrong. so in all honesty you dont want to know what the so called bad side of straightedge is about. you just want me to be what you think i am. some seventh dagger tshirt wearing faggot and punches people for smoking around me. And i will tell you flat out anyone who is not from this continent does not know the first thing about hardcore. read your fuckin fanzines and type your blogs you still will never know what this is really about. you are the internet version of hardcore. you just try and copy what we did. the best part is i bet you all will tell me how ian mackaye was against crews and against violence. well the truth is he was in a straightedge crew. he beat up drunks. he ran around with ssd and boston crew. and he sold out cause he doesnt like what it stands for he says. he was the one who used to do it. you never grew around the old school guys. you never got smashed in the head with beer bottles for having x's on your hands. and i bet none of you had to earned anything in your scenes you are just a bunch of kids who stand in the back and bitch cause you dont know how to have fun. just like champion. yeah they preach all that unity bullshit and then bitch and whine when they get off stage.

You have a slight case of homophobia there, you might want to clear that up as its pretty ignorant.
And your post raises some questions.
what exactly is your experience of hardcore in other countries?
Do you think shitty things don't happen anywhere else in the world? Or that there is no adversity to overcome anywhere else?
You say i don't know what hardcore is about because i didn't hang out with some americans way back then. Lots of americans haven't hung out with people from way back then...does that mean they don't know what hardcore is either?
It seems like only people who were hit by beer bottles and hung around with people from the start can know what hardcore is...at least that is what your message is coming across as. I'm fairly sure thats not what you are really trying to say, if it is then...wow! But if it isn't perhaps you could take some care in putting forward exactly what you mean. I.e. what is the actual criteria to know what hardcore is about? and perhaps you could also express to everyone else what hardcore actually is about. It would be nice to know seeing as most people here thought they were part of a hardcore scene and it would be nice to know what factors we lack.
I would like to thank you in advance for any effort you put into answering these questions in a helpful way.

It's easy for you to check out some of the MANY straight edge hardcore bands from Europe. Who knows, you might like some of them. I still don't think it will make you realise anything though, you will still assume only Americans can be hardcore because only the Americans you speak of got hurt and into fights about it. After all, violence in the hardcore scene is all that seems to matter to you.
I cannot beleive the bullshit you are typing man, I really can't. And I am really failing to see how you can't realise some of the things you are saying are ridiculous and just plain dumb.

It was more the skull tattooed on his head that caught my interest, not really the X on his face.
