"Q: Let’s start with clarifying the rumour about The First Step breaking up this summer. Is that true and if so what’s the reason behind this?

Stephen: That’s the way it’s looking right now. Everything is great with the band but we sort of came to the point where we feel that we did everything we wanted to do as a band. We’ve made so many good friends and have so many good memories. We want to end the band on a really high note instead of sticking around for too long. Not that we’re really afraid of that, because we’re not a band that care if people like us or not. We just feel that it’s really time for us. It’s not the same thing when we broke up the band before. It was because things got really shitty with some of our close friends and we just didn’t want to do it anymore. We were losing more friends than we were making. Now we just know it time to stop it. If we all still hang out together in like 3 or 5 years or something like that, somebody will say “Hey let’s play a show”, maybe we will."

cheer up, it's nothing new. I don't like the new stuff, i have to admit, it doesn't move me at all. and it's better to finish the band like this. or would you like them to contine for 5 more years and make crappier and crappier songs, and burn out?

But I think the new stuff is good, and they are amazing live. So yeah I would like to see them around for another 5 years, whereas someone who didn't like there new stuff might not.

If they stuck around for 5 more years they might release another record that is even better than anything they done before though.

...and they will get to the point where people want them to play the old songs. That's how it goes dude.
Look at madball for example. Nobody i know listens to the new stuff, they want to hear the early records.
Just saying.

I disagree with your example of Madball. I love Infiltrate the System and think its a great album, and when I saw them live there was alot more energy when they played some of the newer stuff.

I think the main point is the band have done everything they wanted to do with the band as they said. So for them to continue would be half hearted or at least won't inspire them to release a record better than anything else. If the desire to be on the road playing shows regardless of the material being old or new is gone then the show isn't going to be all that great and with that in mind i admire the band making the choice to stop. There is obviously a significant difference in the desire of TFS and madball in this respect. Personally i wish they still wanted to play shows together because i like them but its always better to end on a high note in my opinion.

that can be due to a lot of things. of course the younger kids like the newer stuff to hear at shows, because maybe that's what they got into by the band for first time.
The majority of the people I know who like madball like the first few records, they might be alright with the later stuff, but that is the era of the band they are interested in.
Ed totally nails it by the way.
