How to become sXe?

OK, so I wrote in some Bulgarian sXe forum, but they were very discouraging. I mean they were like: "OMG... You wanna become a sXe just because it's "cool" and you just wanna fell like a part of a sub-culture, and a couple of months later you're gonna abandon everything..."

But this is not something that will make me feel cool, but more like trulie PROUD of myself for the first time in my life (Except for the pride of being a Bulgarian). I never really liked the taste of beer. And I've been considering becoming an edger for a month, but after my friend's birthday yesterday my decision was final - I'M BECOMING AN EDGER! So my questions are: Does sXe have a style of clothing? Does sXe have enemies, or people that edgers hate? Does sXe have a typical haircut or anything? Can ANYONE be an edger - I read in an forum about 4 people who were Straight Edge. The first two were emos, the third was a skinhead and the fourth was an anarchist. Those were four TOTALLY different from each other people, but they were all Straight Edge! And I said to myself - Woooow....

There isn't a set style that you incorporate into your life. There are many people from different walks of life that are straightedge, thus the different people you've met. If you look at the pictures thread, you'll see that we're all different here. If you check out the music thread, you'll see that we like different music.

As for enemies, there are people out there who do not like what we stand for and will do anything to get under our skin. I'm not sure how it is in Bulgaria, but in the States, our "enemies" are typically peoplewho will write ignorant things on these types of forums. No worries though, just keep your cool.

this is pretty dead on. I'd suggest trying to find some hardcore shows in your area and going to a few. There will be people like you encountered on that other board that will try and be over protective, but you will also find people like those on here that will be friendly and talk to you. Keep in mind and remind them, everyone started at some point. No one started off straight edge. No one was an expert from birth.

edge is a personal choice why would it have a syle of clothing etc.......

i'm edge for almost 4 years (22 of May).
i have dreadlocks, i wear skateclothing like Element, Matix, Volcom, Santa Cruz, ...
i like listening to hardcore, but also rock, blues, jazz, eurodance (:D), dnb, metal, punk, ...


... it's just a choice imo :)

Well... In Bulgaria things are pretty bad... I mean there's a very high % of teenage smoking and drinking and shit... It doesn't matter in what shop you go - they will ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS sell you alcohol, even though it's illegal if you're under 18 (In the US it's 21, right?). It's hard to believe?! Welcome to Bulgaria - land of communism and treason where almost every SECOND kid smokes and it's actually "cool" to start drinking and smoking at an early age. And I really mean early age - I've seen kids that are in... maybe 4-5th grade with a cigar in their mouth O_o. It's rediculous... OH, and every 4th kid has tried pod... So that's why I decided to become STRAIGHT EDGE! I actually feel different... in a good way! :) As far as I know I'm the only Edger in my town - I live in an small/avarage town with population of 50, 000 (Yeah I know it's small but for our country it's ALMOST avarege, considering our capital is 2 000 000)

Neato, i am totally stoked you decided you wanted rise above all that nonsense. At one point in my life i would have fit in well with your countrys average stoner kid. I used to do all that stuff... well i am clean now.

I dont think asking for style tips from people that seem to live across an ocean from you is a good idea =). I may be one of the emos you are refering to... lol. I would say that you should dress the way you think goes best with your looks/ideas. I wear a ratty old hoodie with about 70 buttons from random shows and peace rallys i have attended. Its not stylish or strapping in any way... its just basicly a picture of what is bouncing around in my skull. I dont think any one on hear can tell you what you should wear with out know what you look like.

As far as music... you should probably want to try to get into Hardcore... I like hardcore, but i listen to pretty much anything you can list.

I think that you should not change who you are, your ideals, to conform to straight edge. You can not drink or smoke and not be straight edge.

The random Caps bother me but thats besides the point. The smoking kids I can believe. I worked at a grocery store in high school and I had to throw a 14 year old and a 8 year old out for smoking weed in the bathroom
