I love the fact I found a 100% nut free soy nut butter that tastes EXACTLY like I remember peanut butter tasting! You guys cannot comprehend how happy this makes me!

Back story, I developed an allergy to peanuts when I was 7, prior to that, peanut butter was my favourite food in the world.

I probably can't imagine how that feels, but it must be crazy awesome !

I love the taste of pure apple juice. In the next town there is this farmer that grows apples, he makes juice of 'em. Pure apples, nothing else. If I pour out a glass you can see little bits of crunched apples on the bottom.

that's awesome. You may want to talk to a doctor about this: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1968474,00.html

I was allergic to shellfish since I was 16 but found out recently I'm not anymore. I think it's because I was eating things with a low amount of shellfish and built up a tolerance. Either that or a I grew out of the allergy.

That is a really interesting article, I would never think eating trace amounts of whatever it is your allergic to could help build up a tolerance.

Apparently it is not uncommon to outgrow peanut allergies. There is a test that can be done here where under the supervision of a doctor they can test whether or not you are still allergic to peanuts. They put a little bit on your skin, and you eventually eat small amounts of it to see if a reaction occurs. I am tempted to try this because a few weeks ago I had an accident where I took a bite out of a peanut butter cookie not realising what it was until after i bit into it, and I had absolutely no reaction (other than the cripping fear that ensued after realising what I had just done), so I would be curious to find out if I out grew the allergy.

I'd do it if for no other reason to know you don't have to live in fear of eating something that may have trace amounts.

Lifestyle_X
06-06-2010, 11:22 AM
A dürüm (Turkish: dürüm, "roll") is a Turkish wrap that is filled with typical döner kebab ingredients. The wrap is made from lavash or yufka flatbread, similar in shape to the Mexican tortilla, but made from wheat flour, not from cornflour.

In Belgium, it is filled with meat, and sometimes also fries and salad, topped by one of the typical Belgian sauces. Many types of fried meat, including traditional Belgian (i.e. not only Turkish) fast food is often also put in a dürüm. Alternatively, the same ensemble can be put in a mitraillette.

http://jesus.spydro.be/weblog/wp-content/durum.jpg

Since a month or 2 I take the vegetarian durum. It's filled with vegetables (green, so no carrots) and a few pieces of goat cheese or feta cheese, I don't know for sure. It's way healthier than having one with the meat and the fries. But I still ask andalouse-sauce on my durum.

Don't they have durum, pitta, or doner kebab in the States ?

that's a shame, snails and frog legs are good. I remember reading somewhere that the lack of frogs legs in france had more to do with over hunting more so than anything else. the demand was just too great and the population never recovered.

which is weird, because nearly no ones eat them. Maybe one or two centuries ago, some people from the higher classes did that... but still, it has never been a mass-consumption product.

I don't know dude. the thing I just read said that 20% of the frog consumption globally was from the french, the next 20 are for folks in belgium and the next largest is the US. so someone is eating them. Then again, they're not that common here either, but there are a lot more of us than there are of you. I've also learned that the french apparently call the english roast beef as an insult, which is awesome.

Yup, we call the english "roast beef" sometimes, and it's definitely not nice haha.
And Americans are often called 'ricain (as in the end of americain, french for american) or amerloc (the first one is not an insult at all I'd say, the other one is more colloquial, but not really an insult either.) Because we like you, American people (except when you go to war with fake reasons...) nearly as much as you hate us, French people :)
But that's definitely not the subject lol

I love warm, sometimes hot, occasional fall days over here. Like the one we've got today. Spent almost an hour just standing in the sun without clothing (no, just torse!)

Actually, fall is pretty much warm over here and I love it. Like, more than half of it up until December you can easily go out in just a t-shirt in the morning and do exercises (if you're just going to walk around or stand you'll freeze of course!).

<3 it

I also love my GNOME desktop. Had to switch from KDE and I realized that for the time being I like GNOME a lot more. It's become a lot more sophisticated and stable and all-around great desktop environment than 3-4 years ago when I tried to see why people liked it so much.

Uhm let me see... with average salary of a cashier comprising $317USD/1Mo and $200USD to pay for apartment rent and food that leaves $127USD of free money at max.

$127USD x 18Mo = $2286USD

Now, going with the cheapest flight that seems to be offered by Lufthansa reaching NYC would cost (return ticket cost included) approximately $800USD.

It looks like one night stay at one of the cheapest hostels costs around $50USD. So, it's

$50USD x 30 = $1500USD for a month long stay.

Food about $50usd/1w, so it's

$50 x 4 = $200USD

Getting around - no idea. $350 a month in total? IDK if that's a realistic figure at all! Just guessing.

Visa - approximately $150 charges in total (may be actually a lot less).

Let's sum it up:
800+1500+200+350+150=$3000USD

visiting and buying anything not included so let's add 50% of that sum and we get $4500USD.

4500/127=35Mo or 3 years of saving money without actually spending them on anything but apartment rent and food. Just for a month of very modest life in NYC. Of course, I could use a bank or a credit union to make deposits and speed up money accumulation but still.

I'd rather grow to that financial level when taking on such trips doesn't seem like such a pain in the arse :]

And yes people for most life in Ukraine is that poor.

Wow. You thought this through!
Thanks to you, I nearly feel like I'm paid a lot, while it's the minimum of all minimum wages possible in France.
But I was not suggesting that you did all that... but if you really want to go to the US, or anywhere, don't you have any option that does not cost that much?
For example, if I had been there as a teaching assistant, I would have had to pay for the flight, visa fees, and that's it: I would have been paid there to pay for shopping etc (because food and place to live are free since you're working, etc).
In the end, it costs around 800 dollars.
Oh, and, by the way, Lufthansa is way more expensive than every other "big" airlines! I checked with them, first, because they're said to be cheap... but I managed to find a ticket for 460 euros, while lufthansa was 4000 euros. hahaha.

Anyway, I bet there are some option for you to leave, if you put some money aside, even if it's not gonna be as easy for you as it was for us.
I know that people who go to college can come to France through programs like Erasmus, and they really don't need a lot of money for that....
Just saying! Hope you can go wherever you want, in the end :)

Marion, you worked as a cashier in the weekends or the whole week ?

Erasmus is cheap, you get a scholarship.

I had a "student contract", meaning from may/june to october and at every vacation, I'm doing 30hours/week (which is considered full time for such a work, cause no one gets over that), and then I'm supposed to do only 8hours per week on saturdays But actually, during last year, I was doing 18 hours (9 on fridays, 9 on saturdays) which killed me. This year is a bit easier since I have classes only one single day of the week, I work more but it's spread all over the week...
So, anyway, in the end I work quite a lot, it's really not easy with the lessons to study and my thesis to research for etc... but I think I'll find it was worth it, when I'll be in the US :)

I love that i have had a number of deposits to my bank account that i wouldn't usually get.

One was from a hotel i stayed in the other week in london, at about 5am i was awoken by crazy amounts of noise, shouting, screaming, crying, banging and general sounds of an altercation. It turned out to be the police breaking the door down of the room next to us and tackling a violent man who was trying to flush a substance down the toilet. What that substance was was unclear to the hotel manager but what is clear is that i stay in only the classiest of hotels!! I did however get a free meal and they refunded the price of the room back to my account.

Second was a grant for a course i am studying which doesn't have to be paid back or anything so that is pretty neat. I also have another grant pending but that one has to be used towards computer equipment...but its still neat.

Some people were drunk, but not too much and everybody there was really cool. And one or two other people there were sober, too.
I love that, after 10 years of dating, I finally went out with a foreigner. A very interesting german guy with the cutest accent. :)

Nope, 12. You know, like you're in 7th grade and some kid in your class asks you to be your boyfriend lol. Cute stuff, not like grown-up dating, of course.

Snow days! I was supposed to teach a class on arctic sovereignty and indigenous populations but the school is closed today because of a snow storm! I am a little embarassed about the fact the snow is being made out to be such a big deal, because it isn't that bad....but I will happily take the day off!.

yea, the sweet and salty (purple bag) are vegan. And filled with all the same carcinogens that make other Doritos great. Haven't had them in a year though.

? What brand are you referring to? The Tias are natural...this is a plus for me on two fronts since I'm vegan and allergic to MSG.
