Phoenix is pretty intense; especially since the capitol building is here. There have been multiple protests (one student walk-out at my school, multiple at others) and the media is all over it. I think that the law has finally shined a light on the racial tension that has always existed here. It's also been the rally point for many of the politicians....either trying to repeal it or keep it in tact. There were a lot of interviews with Sheriff Joe Arpaio stating that he would run for Governor, but now there are sources saying he doesn't have the intention. However, that is what McCain said before his run. If this happens, I think I will need to move.
I'd curious to see what StealthEdge has to say about Tucson

Its really mellow here. Life drags on much as it always has. Then again I live on the east side of town and its very monochromatic. You may get a different report from someone who lives on the west or south side.
Most of the people I work with (many who are Mexican) actually support this thing.

It's a ridiculous bill that allows the state education board to review the content of some classes for anti-government and/or racist sentiment. Which is fine; that's their job. Teachers are responsible to provide all sides of an argument without personal opinion so the kids can make up their own minds.
However, the media and Tom Horne are presenting this issue as an attack on classes that bar white students students from the ethnic studies. I don't know of any school districts that divide the students up by their ethnicity to teach race-oriented subjects. It's downright illegal. I find it interesting that Horne admits that this isn't actually the case, but throws in that the classes attract that population. Well....duh!
The bill also states that these classes should not promote ethnic solidarity over individualism, which is counterproductive to what the government wants--tolerance and peace. If this is the intended goal, it should be understoond communities and social identities are not a bad thing.
I can't stand Tom Horne and Jan Brewer's politics and personal agenda. I miss Napolitano.

But to answer your question, I hate it here.

I can not actually believe this, im discusted readind these articles. I am appalled at the face the school actually painted over the mural in the first place, at least there painting it back to its origianal design. Surley having an image for a school mural that shows caucasian, black and hispanic children on it would be something to be proud of, showing the diversity of the children attending the school. It must have felt terrible for those children attending the school who are from other ethnical backgrounds other than white to see that happening just because of some immature, obnoxious comments by racists in the area. Different ethnic backgrounds should be embraced and learned from each other, not to be made to feel ashamed!!
hope that made sense, im in total rant mode now lol
RAWR! some things just make me sick
