Growing mushrooms (for food not for tripping)

Has anyone done this? I think it would be badass to have a garden full of morels and portobellos but I have no idea how difficult it is... I know you can buy the stuff online to do it but its not cheap so I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is a worthwhile investment???

Aren't they a fungus? I imagine it's different than growin vegetables.
My dad's trying to grow peppers right now though.
