How is the "support" for bicycles in your country/area? I mean things like good cycle paths, repair centres (are they far far away, or are there a lot of 'em all over the place), and public bicycle pumps.

I ask because today I wanted to pump my tires. Because it's Sunday and a holiday, all the repair centres are closed but I know that in some cities there are public pumps, really easy to use. I live in Antwerp now, and it was a bitch to find one! I finally found one and it's not really easy to use.

we have some special roads for bikes around the city, but it's kind of weird think that's good or bad, i doubt we could have special bike roads on the whole city, so just to keep em away from big roads and accidentes i guess it's good enough.

same here

The /student/ city where I live has all that you are asking for bicyclewise, but that is not very helpful to You now, is it?! Still, usually I bring a small bicycle pump with me at all times. Itīs never the right time for empty tires!

Yeah well, I was just curious. I also take my little pump with me, but you can't pump the tires hard enough with that. (I wanted to make a big tour)

Big tour sounds great! I guess then gas stations are the safest card. Good luck!

40km big. No gas stations on the way as I bike, next to the river, through the port of Antwerp.

I am thinking Beautiful scenery! 40 km = one day trip? Hey, with a good hand pump and a load of patience I do believe you can make the tires hard enough for that!

Not with one like this:

Yeah it's a 2 hour trip. Scenery is maybe not so beautiful but special to see.

Special tops beautiful. Hey, that resembles a crappy multi purpose pump I used to have - proved to be multi purposed for nothing usefull at all really.

You need a pump that can stand on the ground at least to push all the air in that you need for a good bike ride. For a 40km tour, this pump won't do. You'll need to bike too hard.

Thats rubbish, you just need to put more effort in and stop being so soft!

Well maybe you will, i mean even as a child i was able to put sufficient air in my tyres with a pump like that! It was a bit of effort but its hard to believe you can't do this!

Yeah I can put air in my tyres with that, but not the perfect amount of air for a big tour. Still, I could do the tour with the amount, it just wouldn't be as smooth to bike.

So you are over filling your tyres? you would have to be overfilling them by a lot if you are unable to use that pump. How much pressure do you require in your tyres in your opinion for a 40k ride?

A bit more I guess!

I contend that the perfect amount of air would be very achievable with a hand pump, even allowing for a bit more!
