completely amazed that they didn't vote for the candidate that wanted to withdraw form the euro zone.

I really don't understand much about politics and economics. But aren't they wasting a lot of money?

partly. The bigger issue is that tax dodging was the national sport of greece and they had a lot of retirement benefits and a low retirement age. They were spending more than they had and they were collecting a lot less than they should have been.

what resolved?

the spending more than they had situation... i mean, i dont think making people pay their taxes at this point can solve everything, specially with the country pretty divided

I absolutely misinterpreted this. I thought you were predicting Greece to win the Euro Cup. Greece is going down fast, and unfortunately I see Europe going down with it. There is just too much instability all over Europe right now with elections happening multiple times per year and austerity measures that are causing riots in countries that people thought were relatively stable. I don't see how the situation is going to get any better any time soon.

I'm just glad that I study IT-stuff. Other students here just keep on studying cause there aren't really jobs for there degree. People with a master degree in history, philosophy, culture management etc etc.. can't do anything now!

Yeah but you will always struggle finding careers in those areas, it was like that before the current financial situation also. I know two people who have philosophy degrees and got them about 15 years ago. One works in logistics and the other in HR!

when you say you see the rest of europe going down with it, what does that actually mean? Can you give an example of europe once it has gone down? I am wondering how severe you feel it will be.

Also i missed who is having multiple elections?

Also i initially thought this thread would be about the Euro 2012!

I perhaps made that sound more dramatic than I intended. With regards to elections, I was thinking specifically of Greece, having had 3 parliamentary elections in the last 3 years (2 of which coming within a month of each other this year), and I see this being a more common occurrence amongst European countries if these economic trends continue. France hasn't had more elections than usual, but the most recent presidential election was effected by the current economic situation in Europe and it will change the face of French foreign policy. And When I say Europe is going down with Greece I just mean that the Euro-zone is in such a fragile place right now and I don't see economic recovery on the horizon. I just find it scary when countries are as economically linked as they are in today's global market.

My friend was just in greece. She saw no problems or anything. Said it looked beautiful and she wanted to go back some day... Until she found out that she had contracted cerebral malaria while she was there... Got outta the hospital yesterday...
