May be a little more complexed

I've been Edge for about 2 years, but I hear all this new ways of living edge. My brother has been edge since he was 18 and hes 35 now. He always just told me that he doesnt drink, doesnt do drugs (even caffeine) and no sex. Is it a little more complexed or are there people that are just the same as ive always been. Ive even heard meat is not allowed. Is this true?

A lot of vegetarianism and veganism can be found in the hardcore scene. I eat meat though as do many people who are straight edge. What other things make it more complex or was it just the meat issue? Also i have sex, as do many people who are straight edge, i think that the odd abstinence from sex is an even more confusing aspect than the eating of meat.

It was always a confusing thing when I heard that. More than the drinking caffeine from what i heard that "sXe'ers" were doing. Some believed that if caffeine didnt harm their mind and didnt use it as a drug then it was alright with them. Its just like saying I dont smoke cigarettes but when it comes to smoking a cigarette. I smoke one becuase its just a thing i like to do.

The way i see it you can't stop caffeine being a drug, it simply just is. If someone is taking it with the idea that they they aren't using it as a drug then it still leaves the question of why take it? Theres no reason to especially if they are not looking for the properties of the drug to have any effect. However you can't really get away from the harm it causes the body whilst it may seem easy to negate because its often a result of accumulative usage.

Very true. Caffeine was used back in the day to get me through my job... Its also just like saying I quit smoking but sometimes i like to have a cig in the morning and after dinner. Now some people are still using that e cig shit. same stuff. but i would have to call it a decaffinated cigarette

For me I find it that caffeine has no effect other than to make me sleepy at times. It doesnt make hyper doesnt make my mind more open. I found out back in the day that arizona had no effects but it did contain caffeine so i had to stop drinking it. Do you think if it doesnt stimulate your mind at all whats the point. Coke, pepsi and mtn. dew are a caffeine effect to the mind but i dont think arizona has that feeling. just good. haha

Just because you aren't aware of the effect it doesn't mean its not there. But i would say if caffeine is making you sleepy then you are in a position where your body has become over exposed to the drug. A stimulant should make you feel more awake but because caffeine is taken so regularly with it being the most commonly taken drug the body grows so accustomed to its effects so it feels like it has no effect. And the tiredness is just your body reacting to having to process the drug and needing to rest as a result. Basically you are experiencing a drug comedown without the high because your central nervous system is being over stimulated by the drug.

As for the beverages, I think why would you drink it if you have no reason to, its a stimulant and why would you drink a drink with a stimulant in if you don't require a stimulant? I mean if they are saying they aren't using it as a drug then thats still missing the point as it doesn't negate the effects of the drug just because the intention isn't to use it as a drug. I mean if the stance is against drugs then surely you would just avoid drinks with a stimulant drug added?
